Frequently asked questions

Can I use your pottery in the dishwasher?

Our stoneware can handle dishwashers without cracking, fading or any other damage. Raku pottery is purely decorative and should not be used in the dishwasher or as tableware.

Is it ok to use the pots in a microwave?

Yes. But please ensure you use oven gloves or other protection when lifting hot containers from the microwave.

Do you use lead in your glazes?

No. All of our tableware is made from lead free food safe glaze.

Can you make more of a specific item?

Each pot is unique and hand thrown, so no two will ever be quite the same, however if you are interested in larger quanties or sets please get in touch, and we can advise how long this could take.

Is stoneware safe for the oven?

Most stoneware will be fine for use in the oven. During its manufacture it will have been baked to around 1260c, so a standard oven temperature wont trouble it. Stoneware (and all other pottery) however, is not suitable on a hob or stove top, as the application of direct heat will almost certainly cause the pottery to crack and break.

Does stoneware chip easily?

Stoneware is one of the most durable types of ceramic and tends to chip less easily than porcelain, which tends to be thinner.

Can stoneware be microwaved?

Stoneware is non porous, and is fine for use in microwaves as it absorbs very little water.

What is the difference between stoneware and Earthenware?

Stoneware is one of the three major varieties of pottery, those being Earthenware, Stoneware and Porcelain. Earthenware is porous, meaning it absorbs water and is not suitable for dishwashers or microwave use. Porcelain can be crafted into delicate forms, and as such is associated very much with delicate white items. The key differences between the three are in the composition of the clay, and what temperatures they can be fired at.
