My pottery journey

Hi, I’m Mike!

I make beautiful, functional tableware with a love for the raw materials and the land they come from. Nothing beats a well-made mug that’s a joy to use and a pleasure to see.

I want to share my pottery and give everyone something special.

I’m committed to developing my skills as a potter, placing experimentation and teaching at the heart of what I do. I graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in Fine Art. I came to ceramics later in life, and with no specialised formal education in pottery, I decided to teach myself. My process of learning is self-directed and ongoing, ranging from researching museum artifacts, learning from experienced potters, rambling in the countryside for clay, and lots of hands on experimentation, so please come and join me on this journey!

Design through experimentation

Throwing stoneware clay on the potter’s wheel leads what I do in the pottery, but there will always be space for something new. Currently I’m…

  • Developing a new clay-body to suit my throwing needs from the unique local clay that I dig by hand here in West Sussex.

  • Advancing my skills operating a Raku kiln and running Raku firings at the Milland Pottery.

Cheers!
