Raku

Raku firing is a traditional Japanese pottery technique where glazed ceramics are taken red hot from the kiln and are quickly covered to prevent the glaze oxidising, resulting in fascinating rainbow colours and textures. Some raku ware may be available in the shop, but if you’re keen to learn more, why not come down to one of our raku firing days in the fairer months, to experience it for yourself.

  • Raku is a firing technique and can be applied to different clay bases and unless specifically mentioned, is not suitable for use as tableware

  • The rugged art of Raku firing creates unique and unpredictable results, crafted by a dramatic combination of the elements. Our raku ware is purely decorative and is not food safe.
